My Axeventure

Axe-throwing has piqued my interest ever since my boyfriend started as an axe-throwing coach a couple of years ago. Although he has tried to get me to throw axes with him, he works around thirty minutes away, and I never got around to visiting. I had a few questions before starting, though: do the axes bounce off the boards
like the axe-throwing game in Dave and Buster’s? Will it be as easy as it seems? Will I have fun axe throwing?
As I walk into Zack’s work, I can see the caged-off axe-throwing area in the back. It is smaller than I thought it would be. It makes me wonder if the axes do bounce back. Do they have a chance to hit me? I positioned myself at the back of the cage to calm my nerves. My first throw was mediocre at best. I missed the middle of the rings and ended up at the bottom right in between the 3rd outer circle and the 2nd inside ring. At least it stuck to the board. Zack tells me that it is because I let go of the axe a little too late, and I should line up the head of the axe where I want it to stick. For my second shot, I start off by stepping my right foot one step forward. Holding the axe at the base, I align the head of the axe with the middle circle. Keeping my arm loose and lined up straight, I bring the axe as far back as I can to help generate a consistent swinging motion and let go of the axe. As I watch the axe rotate through the air towards the boards, I see that I let go too early this time. The axe over-rotates and bounces off the boards. The axes do bounce off, just like the game from Dave and Busters! At least it did not hit me like I thought it would.
For my third attempt, I wanted to get the timing just right. Unlike the past few times, I close my right eye and keep only my left one open. I am acutely aware of the exact moment I should let go. Once again, I position myself and align the axe with the bullseye. WHACK! I got my first bullseye! Oh, who could’ve known what a rush of dopamine hitting a target with an axe is? As a reward, Zack got me a cheese curd cheeseburger with sweet potato fries, and I kept throwing axes with Zack until the food arrived. My throws were consistently hit or miss, and my enjoyment level was lowering with each throw. By the time the food arrived, I was bored of axe throwing. It reminds me of bowling; the first game is fun, but each round gets more mundane and boring. I would suggest axe throwing to anyone curious, but it is harder than it looks!
